NEWCASTLE UNITED 1 MANCHESTER CITY 1: AGUERO SCORES HIS 100TH PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL

Immediately after the whistle was blown for kick –off, Sergio Aguero netted his 100th Premier League goal in the 14th minute. But this was not enough to secure Manchester City all three points at St James’ Park. Newcastle used their home advantage to sustain a 1-1 draw even as they continue in the war against relegation.

The Argentinian was too quick for the linesman to notice that he was offside when he took home Aleksandar Kolarov’s free-kick, however, Newcastle did not give their heads a chance to drop as Vurnon Anita successfully found the back of the net without bias; that being his first goal in two years.

Man City’s, Vincent Kompany returned to the starting line-up in the second half, after his month-long lay-off from a calf injury. Joining forces with Aguero and Jesus Navas was not enough to beat Karl Darlow. A similar conspiracy was formed by the opposing team’s Georginio Wijnaldum which forced Joe Hart into a late save to safeguard City’s point.

After a bright start from the hosts, it was City who opened the scoring and, somewhat inevitably, it was Newcastle’s nemesis Aguero who got it, albeit with some help from the officials.

In any case, the Champions League semi-finalists were less than impressive and couldn’t take three points from 19th place Newcastle, which means Arsenal can return to third place, if they win against West Brom on Thursday.

Newcastle, in the mean time,  are facing Liverpool at the weekend with hopes that Rafael Benitez has some tricks up his sleeve.
