THE FIGHT OF A DREAMER
Recently a professor said to me
“You” can’t be it. No you can’t!”
Having shown him some of my work.
I couldn’t tell him,
“I dont wanna hear it.
I’d rather do it”
For he is elderly and revered.
But is an endeared professor’s remark costlier than the dream of a youth?
If I live his, who will live mine?
Again if I leave this, who will live it?
Oh He thinks highly of me!- a team player.
“No, I am not a team player,
I’m the head of the team!”
My heart reechoes.
“Thats arrogance. Thats pride”
YOU may say.
Thats the problem- “YOU”
And thats where it all ends- “YOU”
Whereas it should be Me saying.
And by the way, pride is good
Its only too much of it that hurts
And even at that,
At least I know where I belong.
Now decision is upon me
I’ll turn down his offer
For I’d rather steer for a future of uncharted waters than settle for one that’s another man’s history.
I will have to disappoint him.
Cos I dont want to face God in Heaven and tell Him I lived another man’s dream all my life.
I may as well be headed for exile, u know?
Maybe I was a born a rebel.
But seriously, it is easier to tame a tiger than to tame Me.
